As the holiday season approaches, it’s time to lace up your running shoes and join the festive fun at one of the most exciting Thanksgiving events – the turkey trot! These turkey-themed runs are the perfect way to kick off your holiday celebrations while getting some exercise and supporting your local communities. The following are five turkey trots in Nevada. 

Nov. 23: Carson City Turkey Trot

Carson City

Lace up your running shoes and head to the heart of the state capital for the Carson City Turkey Trot. Taking place at 8:30 a.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, the trot is a delightful way to celebrate Thanksgiving with your family and friends. You’ll run through the historic streets and enjoy the small-town charm that Carson City has to offer. Plus, your participation supports local charities, making it a true community event. Pumpkin pie and medals will be given to the top three finishers of the 5K, 8K and the Gobble Wobble Kids Run. Shirts will be given to all participants and even non-runners can enjoy the event with hot chocolate, live music and more. 
Cost: The 5K and 8K run is $30 per person, and the Gobble Wobble Kids Fun Run is $20 for little ones under 12.

Nov. 23: Turkey Rock

Las Vegas

Race to Las Vegas for Turkey Rock, taking place on the Western Beltway Trail at 8 a.m. This exciting event starts at a 2,710-ft. elevation that gradually increases with each course. It is a challenging trek, but with a high reward when the rest of the run is all downhill with awe-inspiring views of the mountains. Live music performances will keep runners energized as they make their way through the 10K, 5K or one-mile walk. All racers will be awarded a long-sleeved shirt, finisher medal and enjoy eats after the race concludes. A virtual run will also take place online for those who want to join but can’t make it in person. A portion of the proceeds will fund Alzheimer’s Research and Caregiver Support.
Cost: $45 for the virtual run, $35 for one-mile, $45 for 5K and $55 for 10K.

Nov. 23: Las Vegas Turkey Trot – BBSC Endurance

Start your Thanksgiving Day with a dash through the Historic Railroad Trail at Las Vegas Turkey Trot. Back for its 16th year of trotting, this seasonal event will take place from 6 to 10:30 a.m., taking runners through six tunnels to Hoover Dam and along Lake Mead. With spectacular views of one of the largest man-made lakes and prizes, this turkey trot in Nevada will make your holiday morning unforgettable. Runners can choose from the 12K, 5K or a one-mile walk. All runners will receive a race bib, shirt and medal upon completion. 
Cost: $40 for a one-mile stroll, $60 for 5K, $70 for 12K and $100 for the half-marathon.

Before you settle in for your Thanksgiving feasts and football, join Scheels Turkey Trot at Scheels in Sparks for a 10K or two-mile stroll. This annual event benefits the community, with proceeds aiding Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and American Radio Emergency Service.
