When you need a change in attitude – or latitude – or you just want your job for the day to be “beach,” head to Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar at Town Square Las Vegas. Through the end of the month, it is featuring refreshing tequila cocktails and shareable taco dishes to go alongside its other delicious island fare.
The vibes at Tommy Bahama are immaculate. How is it possible that you can practically smell the ocean air when you’re in the Vegas desert? Every day features live music on the misted patio from 5 to 9 p.m. and happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Seashells dangle peacefully down the wall alongside boat ropes and knots. A classic Tommy Bahama print serves as the backdrop to the bar. All it takes is a few minutes in this environment and you’re on island time.
The month’s specialty cocktails can be found in the Fresh Market Cocktails. The Sun & Spice features Patron Silver, fresh lime and grapefruit juices, serrano syrup and club soda. It’s refreshing and light. The tequila and serrano syrup play perfectly together, and the fresh juices temper the bite and spice. There’s also the Pina Secreta, which combines El Tequileno Blanco with Aperol and includes pineapple juice and fresh lime juice with orgeat syrup. Like the Sun & Spice, the ingredients blend together wonderfully and create the kind of libations that go down fast and easy. The full cocktail list includes classics and standards, boozy shakes and mocktails. Local craft beer on tap and a selection of wines are also available.
The food specials can be found in one of the two Snack sections of the menu. Baja shrimp tacos and pollo al pastor street tacos are available in orders of three. The pollo al pastor street tacos are topped with both papaya-pineapple and spicy jalapeno-avocado salsas, lime sour cream, queso fresco, and fresh cilantro. The pieces of grilled chicken are nicely seasoned and incredibly tender. Double-wrapped in corn tortillas, the result is a light but filling treat that can be enjoyed on your own or shared. The Baja shrimp tacos are filled with crispy fried shrimp and topped with island slaw, lime vinaigrette, tomato relish and a Baja tartar sauce.
Of course, there’s way more to enjoy than just tacos. The ceviche tostada can be ordered either one or two at a time. Generous chunks of marinated cod sit atop a crunchy tostada and are mixed with guacamole, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, fresh citrus and a jalapeno-avocado aioli. It’s bursting with flavor, and the mild cod is an ideal choice to not overpower all the other ingredients. An item from the regular menu that also pairs wonderfully with the specialty cocktails is the ahi poke bowl. The mix of textures and flavors combine for a mouthwatering and filling entree. The bowl contains sushi rice, furikake, wakame salad, a sriracha aïoli, island slaw, pickled cucumber and onion, a generous portion of avocado, edamame, a soy glaze and crispy wontons. This dish is the definition of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Everything just meshes together perfectly.
