Favorite ways to spend your free time in NV: I love spending time with my family. It doesn’t matter what we are doing, I just like who I get to spend my time with!

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Having my business for 17 years while having two daughters and still going strong! During the first business class I took at the Art Institute of Colorado, our professor told us that photography was in the top three businesses that fail. I’ve seen this happen with so many photographers and feel so incredibly blessed to be able to do what I love each day.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: Professionally, having kids has been hard on my business. As a sole proprietor, I have had to turn business down at times because I am a mom first. This was especially hard for me to do when I became a new mom. I was used to being able to photograph anything I wanted that came my way. However, once I shifted my mind to remember that I pursued photography to be able to be home with my kids, I realized that I was meeting my goals in business and in life.

Someone who inspires you and why: My mom! My mom taught piano while raising my brother and I. I saw firsthand how she worked and helped provide for her family but was still present in our lives. She found a way to be home with her kids while still helping our family financially. I knew I wanted to be able to do the same. Photography was the perfect job to be able to work and still be home with my two daughters. I get the best of both worlds!

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Knowing how to run a business is just as important as the artistic side of photography. I would recommend taking business classes if not getting a business degree.

Favorite quote: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed.” -Luke 9:25

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I’m an introvert! I have to make a conscious effort to be outgoing and speak up while photographing people.

What makes someone fabulous: Always looking for the positive in all things rather than focusing on the bad.
