Once upon a time, in a mysterious land known as AREA15 in Las Vegas, the magical tree at Oddwood Bar beckons, promising craft cocktails, delicious shareable bites and even some secrets – if you know where to look.
Oddwood Bar has been a part of AREA15, the immersive interactive entertainment structure just off Interstate 15, since opening in September 2020. Oddwood is central to what AREA15 offers, both in location and the grander idea of what they represent. If it is your first time at AREA15, a visit to Oddwood Bar offers the opportunity to take in everything that surrounds you. For frequent guests of AREA15, it serves as a gathering spot in between activities, to meet and share stories, experiences and bites.
Five thousand LED “leaves” morph into endless color combinations, making Oddwood Bar’s 23-ft.-tall digital maple tree a nonstop attraction. House DJs provide the sound for the bar and the entire complex. That combination of sight and sound (not to mention taste) will mesmerize and transport you to a land beyond your wildest imagination.
The cocktail menu includes Oddwood Bar’s signature craft cocktails and rotating seasonal cocktails. With the holiday season in full swing, Oddwood has presents for you under its tree in the form of fun cocktails that evoke merriment. The Jingle Ball is Christmas in a glass. It’s made with Botanist gin, Aperol, St. Germain and cherry bark bitters. The tart of the cherry cuts through the sweetness right when you want it to, and the spice notes conjure winter thoughts. As if that isn’t enough to make you jolly, the drink comes in a Christmas tree ornament. Another seasonal cocktail to try is the Polar Espresso. Extra creamy and wonderfully smooth, this take on an espresso martini is made luxurious with the addition of white chocolate liqueur. Oddwood’s signature cocktails include fun takes on tradition like the Mexican Candy Margarita and the Watermelon Mule. There is also the Ghost of the Wood – with Ghost blanco spicy tequila as the base. It includes Oddwood’s housemade ginger agave.
As for the secret menu – well, it would take the fun away to tell you everything. What Fabulous Nevada can divulge is that each drink you order grants you rewards for various activities at AREA15. You may “Liftoff” high above Las Vegas with one discovery, or find yourself going for a birdie using your “Five Iron” with another.
Oddwood Bar has a small bites menu that is ideal for sharing. The crispy rice trio includes shoyu ahi poke, spicy salmon belly and cucumber mango toppings, each over a bed of rice. Each piece has a wonderful crunch from the rice bed, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful. The savory lobster rangoon packs big flavor in the bite-size dumplings. Another standout is the wood-grilled ribeye skewers. They’re marinated in a mustard teriyaki and are accompanied by a cucumber sunomono (marinated salad) that threatens to steal the show. The meat is extremely tender, and the mustard teriyaki complements the meat perfectly.
Oddwood Bar is open Monday from noon to 1 a.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, noon to midnight; and Friday and Saturday, noon to 2 a.m. Mondays are “Industry Mondays” with 25 percent off for locals from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Thursdays offer “Leaves of Light” featuring discounted drinks at various times throughout the evening.
