Restaurant of the Week: L2 Texas BBQ

L2 Texas BBQ specializes in big, bold barbecue with flavors and an atmosphere that puts you “deep in the heart of Texas” while never leaving Las Vegas.

Even on your first visit, there’s something nostalgic about L2 Texas BBQ. The warmth of the staff, the themed decor and the delicious smell of smoked meats wafting from the kitchen. It’s difficult to put your finger on it exactly, but it is a reminder of a time when going out to eat was an infrequent family treat.

L2 Texas BBQ opened in December 2020. In just a short period of time since, co-owners and chefs Larry Esguerra and Larry Lehrner have built a reputation for some of the best barbecue in Las Vegas. They cook their meats in the traditional “slow and low” style over hickory, mesquite and oak for 13 hours, blending styles and methods of Texas barbecue.

When you go to a restaurant, you always hope to discover that new favorite dish. The one that your mouth tries to recreate the feeling of for days after your visit. At L2 Texas BBQ, there are at least two. The Buffalo Chicken Lollipops are big and meaty (like pretty much everything at L2 – “Big. Texas. BBQ.” is not just a tagline). They are as tender as can be, and the smoky, sweet sauce with just enough heat to bring a single bead of sweat combine for wing lovers’ paradise.

There are many ways to enjoy a meal at L2. Not surprisingly, one of the most popular is the all-you-can-eat option, so you can indulge in all the barbecue platters you can handle. The first order comes with three portions of meat and two sides. Each additional plate includes two servings of meat and two sides. There are some restrictions, but no matter how you cut it, it’s a great deal for the carnivore with a healthy appetite.

If you don’t go with the all-you-can-eat option, you can order your meats and sides a la carte, as a sandwich, or go with a combo platter or the “Family Share Platter” recommended for four to six people. Whichever you choose, make sure to include the fried baby back ribs with your selection. It’s difficult to make delicious baby back ribs better – but frying them and then drizzling one of the L2 sauces over them does the trick. A broad selection of sandwiches and burgers from L2’s sister restaurant, Texas Meltz (located at Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard), are also available.

L2 Texas BBQ features a selection of beers, ciders, wine, and cocktails. They also offer buckets of five beers for $20 on Sundays. A non-alcoholic highlight is the iced apple tea that you can have sweetened or unsweetened. The local favorite also plans on offering happy hour and other specials in the near future.

L2 Texas BBQ is open Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It currently features trivia on Mondays and music bingo on Wednesdays, both at 6 p.m.
